This is about as close as you're going to get to every single kind of boot in one.
The boot is a lot sturdier and more stiffer.
Overall though, this is a fabulous boot that will win lots of admirers not just for its looks, but also its light weight, comfort, and ability on technical climbs where both precision and protection are required.
I have used a pair of the Scarpa Ribelles for a couple of winter forays and found them pretty impressive.
So, if your planning to set a speed record, tackle an Alpine ascent, or just want some more comfort in your approach and climb check out the Scarpa Ribelle Tech OD.
The Ribelle Mountain Tech would be a fantastic boot for anyone who enjoys summer srambling, but even more so for winter and alpine mountaineers.
- The Scarpa Ribelle Tech OD is an ultralight hybrid boot that combines running and mountaineering elements to deliver performance and protection in challenging conditions. Its synthetic Cordura and Kevlar upper features both Outdry and Primaloft technologies for water protection and insulation, respectively.
- Giving adventurers a cushioned ride is the footgear’s midsole made of light polyurethane (PU). It comes with a Vibram Mulaz S/Mont outsole to render multidirectional traction on virtually all types of terrain.
The Ribelle Tech OD is a unisex high-top boot for mountaineering trips. Its S-Tech upper comes with a single piece of elastic material called Sock-Fit Plus. These patented features work in tandem with an integrated gaiter to give a responsive and sock-like feel. Its lacing system is paired with a Velcro protection cover to help users get a secure and personalized lockdown. The boot is built on Scarpa’s low-volume ARG last, which offers a more fluid and natural gait.
This mountaineering-centric boot from Scarpa employs a Vibram Mulas S/Mont outsole to help adventurers stay stable over challenging terrain. Its profile employs a mix of triangular and trapezoid-shaped lugs to deliver grip on both wet and dry surfaces. Its front end is fitted with a climbing zone to give added control during an ascent. Also, it has a heel brake, which helps users when tackling downhill conditions.
The Scarpa Ribelle Tech OD is able to give outdoor enthusiasts a cushioned ride, thanks to its light PU midsole. This material is known for absorbing shock while being resilient to wear and tear. It has an Activ Plus insole, which grants extra cushioning and comfort underfoot. The midsole’s zone also sports a welt for semi-automatic crampon attachment.
Scarpa’s Ribelle Tech OD is equipped with an upper made of a KCN Tech and S-Tech fabrics. These materials, which incorporate high-tenacity Cordura and Kevlar materials, make the boot resistant to abrasive elements while keeping it lightweight. An OutDry membrane is embedded into the upper to prevent water intrusion while allowing excess moisture to escape. It is also lined with Primaloft technology to trap heat inside the footgear.
A full rand wraps around the base of this Scarpa offering for durability and trail protection. It wraps around the rearfoot area to give extra heel security and support. The Ribelle Tech OD’s lacing system employs a series of metal eyelets and a Velcro cover to help the wearer adjust its fit. The boot’s sock-like ankle gaiter has a pair of pull loops to give easy on and off.
Both the Ribelle Tech OD and Charmoz are Scarpa offerings designed for mountaineers. These two products are equipped with the brand’s patented technologies to deliver protection and performance in harsh mountaineering conditions. Shown below are the ways in which they are similar and qualities that differentiate them.
Upper. Scarpa furnished the Charmoz with an upper made of synthetic textiles. It is lined with an OutDry membrane to keep water from entering the footgear. A layer of synthetic overlays covers the upper to provide structure and support. A rubber rand wraps around the upper to shield it from abrasive elements. The Scarpa Ribelle Tech OD comes with an upper made of KCN Tech and S-Tech fabrics to reduce weight and protect the foot from the elements.
Midsole. The Scarpa Charmoz uses a midsole made of varying densities of EVA and PU. This design enables the boot to handle uneven terrain with sufficient cushioning and shock absorbency. Its heel region houses a lip-like groove to make crampon attachment possible. It also has a Pro-Fiber XT 20 footbed, which offers added cushioning and underfoot comfort. Meanwhile, the Scarpa Ribelle Tech OD comes with a light PU midsole to give wearers a cushioned ride.
Outsole. The Charmoz is equipped with Vibram Mulaz S outsole to keep users steady on mountainous terrain. It is made of a Mont rubber compound, which makes it resistant to frigid temperatures. The lugs located in the outsole’s forefoot section are designed to help wearers grip on uphill conditions. The Ribelle Tech OD is fitted with a Vibram Mulas S/Mont outsole to render traction.
