Built with strength and agility in mind, the Adidas Flying Impact, also referred to as Impact, is constructed from materials that would allow wrestlers to move quickly and forcefully. It is cushioned so wearers can dig in their heels and not easily fall over, while the thin sole unit makes it easy for players to push forward and topple their opponent. The high-cut upper with an extensive tongue supports and protects the leg during combat.
Traction. The underside features a durable, solid rubber. It features a zigzag tread pattern on the outsole which provides maximum contact with the mat. It has a DriveZone and a RadialCurve section. The DriveZone uses closely spaced treads that provide more grip. The RadialCurve under the ball of the foot is contoured and the tread is placed further apart, making it easier for the foot to pivot. The medial side of the outsole is raised. It protects the part of the upper it covers and also helps users push off the mat using the inner side of their heels.
The Adidas Flying Impact sports a low-profile sole construction, thus the rubber outsole also serves as its cushioning unit. However, the interior is lightly padded to enhance underfoot comfort. The low-to-ground structure affords better proprioception, allowing the foot to move naturally.
Coverage and breathability. The top of the Flying Impact features a two-part construction. Leather is the primary material used to deliver a supportive foothold. The tongue employs mesh, which helps with ventilating the interior. There are also perforations at the vamp to keep the foot chamber fresh.
Lockdown. The upper material is constructed to snugly wrap the foot and leg of the wearer. The high top construction renders ankle support. The foothold can be customized using the lace-up closure. Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) overlays are placed on key areas that enhance lateral support, especially when the laces are tightened.
If more ankle support is desired, make sure to check out the Adidas Combat Speed 5. This model also has a high-top silhouette with the addition of a single Velcro strap at the top. This element amplifies the ankle hold and it also serves as a lace garage. Its upper is made of mesh which ensures that the interior is kept fresh during battle. For support, there are synthetic overlays placed throughout the top. As for the outsole, it’s split sole construction facilitates natural foot bending and helps keep the weight of the shoe down.
